WHAT Non-Fonctionelles is a family of jars that embodies the lost of the awareness regarding the water's preciousness. This collection of nonfunctional jars questions our relationship with water.
WHY During this one week projet, I was based in Vallauris, an historical France city specialized in ceramics crafts. One of the emblematic artefacts made in this city is the jar, which is a traditional object around the Mediterranean used to store wine and water and keep it fresh. Terra-cotta recipients exist all around the world and are still used nowadays, for example in areas with no access to water. Women especially are used to walking miles and miles to find water. In the occidental countries, we lost the notion of scarcity of water.
INSPIRATION I was inspired by the french ceramist Franck Scurti, based in Vallauris, who realized the project ‘Serrer la ceinture’ (‘Tighten your Belt’), that aims raising awareness about our water consumption.
HOW For this project I applied an hand-on approach, using my ceramic skills to through this collection. By physically intervening on the jars, I made them obsolete.
